Girl Guide Badges
HI-Hostels in both Alberta and British Columbia are located in some of Western Canada's most beautiful places. At so many of the hostels you can gaze into the sky at night and see all the stars, watch birds of prey capture their dinner, build a campfire where you can sing to your hearts content and of course there is always winter in the Rockies where you'll find amazing skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
HI-Hostels are ideal facilities for you to work with your group in gaining your Girl Guide badges. HI-Staff are exceptional and full of resources regarding any of the hostels you decide on. We've spent many years fascinated by the environments that envelop all our hostels, and have a lot of information to share with you. All you need to do is contact us and you'll be on your way to a sash full of badges!
Girl Guides of Canada: Discover Hostelling Challenge Crest
HI-Canada has partnered with the Girl Guides of BC and Alberta to create a new crest that educates the girls about hostel travel around the world. The program is focused on learning about hostelling as an alternative form of travel that is cheap, fun and safe, and an opportunity to learn about other cultures from around the world.
Travelling takes courage, mental endurance, confidence, an acceptance of all cultures and a zest for life. In order to complete the Discover Hostelling Challenge, the girls must spend a night at an HI Hostel and do a number of activities that include planning a travel budget and itinerary, meeting other travelers and using the hostel facilities such as the kitchen and other common areas.
Discover Hostelling Challenge is fun to earn and can start you on the path to travelling around the world! This challenge can help your unit become global citizens who are connected to people and places near and far. Guiders are responsible for completion of the challenge requirements for each guide receiving a crest. Get connected by having your guides stay at our hostel and complete activities involving trip planning, a hostel scavenger hunt and catching the hostelling spirit!
